B. Durrett –
Great solution for home automation and alarms, loud, good quality audio
This is a great device, very loud with clear audio, perfect for adding alerts and alarms for home automation. Over the last 2 years I tried cheaper sirens, and they were either too quiet, difficult to integrate, or limited in their alarm / sound options. This one is nearly perfect. The form factor is pretty small, which is great that it doesn’t take up a full outlet, but at first I thought that might result in the device not being able to produce loud sounds… the siren is plenty loud. It also has a built-in battery backup, which is great for preventing disabling (it would be a weak link in the alarm system if unplugging the siren turned off the alarm). It comes with about 20 built in sounds and you can have a total of up to 50, which are installed by plugging the siren into your computer via an included USB cable, and simply adding mp3 files.Integrating via Z-Wave with Home Assistant was super easy, although learning the HA / Z-Wave commands took a little trial and error (not really the fault of the device). As I was testing it, my family commented on how loud the new alarm was. Sounds can be configured to play in a loop either by number of times to repeat, number of seconds to repeat, or one-shot. The quality of the audio is pretty good – not what you would want for listening to music all day, but really clear for an alarm / siren. The light seems reasonably bright, noticeable during daylight, and the color can also be set to any RGB value. It looks like the light and speaker are independently controllable. You can find cheaper alarms / sirens, and I’ve tried a few of them but ended up not keeping them. The overall quality, flexibility, and features on this siren are a good value, especially considering the time I wasted trying to make the others do what this one did out of the box.
